Dr. Candice Jennifer Costa, of Jamaica Plain, MA, passed away March 24, 2014 surrounded by her wife and family. Ms. Costa, 40, was a Doctor of Audiology at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Jamaica Plain, where she cared for our country’s veterans. Candice is survived by her wife, Stephanie Hunt, her father Dennis Costa and her late mother Sharon. Her aunt Maureen Morris., her father-in-law John Hunt and his wife Carrie, her brothers and sisters in-law David and Chryseis Hunt and their daughter Kearin; James and Heather Weaver and their daughter Sarah. A longtime member of the Jamaica Plain community, Candice will be missed by hundreds of loving friends. She received her undergraduate degree at Bridgewater State University and went on to complete her Master’s degree and then Doctorate of Audiology at Northeastern University (NU). Candice was a researcher and clinical supervisor at NU prior to working at the VA. Through her career she mentored and taught a number of students. She also enjoyed being an active member in American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) serving on national boards. Candice enjoyed playing flag football, pool, and kickball with her many friends. Naturally athletic, Candice loved running, biking, kayaking, and hiking with her wife, Stephanie. Together they travelled extensively in the US and abroad to many beautiful places. More than anything, Candice enjoyed spending time with her family and especially with her 2 nieces, Kearin and Sarah. Aunt Candice loved her nieces and was overjoyed to watch them laugh and play, and grow into beautiful girls. A consummate joke-teller, Candice was a master of crafting clever jokes and puns that made everyone around her laugh out loud. She lit up every room she entered with joy and happiness. Visitation hours will be held at Gormely Funeral Home, from 4-8 on Friday. Services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Unitarian Universalist church in Jamaica Plain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Candice’s name to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. ZAHNER, Jeannie Ogden Williams passed away peacefully in Jamaica Plain, MA, April 27, loved, cared for and surrounded by her five children, Jeannie Zahner Jouffroy, Lucy Zahner Montgomery, John Howard Zahner, Matthew Capell Zahner and Merritt Michael Zahner. Wife of the late Richard Zahner (1988), Jeannie is also survived by her two brothers, Richard Williams of Portland, OR and Merritt Williams of Lake Helen, FL; her sons- and daughters-in-law, George Montgomery, Honor Welch Zahner and Carol Somerhalter Zahner; and her nine beloved grandchildren, Emilie, Sophie and Paul Jouffroy, Glennon Montgomery, Michaela, Genevieve and John Zahner and Chereen and Julie Zahner. Jeannie was also particularly close to her sister-in-law Barbara Stromsted of Pepperell, MA and her cousin Arthur Tunnell of Melrose, MA. DONOVAN-McLAUGHLIN, Helen (Callahan) Of Jamaica Plain at 102 passed away peacefully in her own home on June 27, 2014. She was born on November 15, 1911 in Malin Co. Donegal Ireland. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Callahan and Mary Anne (Kane) Callahan, her husbands James Donovan and John McLauglin, her brother Edward Callahan and sisters Mary O?Malley, Catherine Finn and Rose Doherty and most recently by her son James C. Donovan of Marshfield. She is survived by her children Edward J. and his wife Pat Donovan of Marshfield, Mary Ann O’Connor of Westwood, and Helen and her husband Albert Lake of West Roxbury, her grandchildren Edward and his wife Christen Donovan of Reading, Carolyn Donovan of Randolph, Michael and his wife Jean Donovan of West Roxbury, Gregory and his wife Margaret Lake of West Roxbury, Kimberly and her husband Michael La Monticelli of Norwood. The late Paul D. O’Connor and Kathleen O’Connor and her husband Catello Eposito of Westwood. She leaves her nieces Ann Reid of Bridgewater, Helen Murdoch of Savannah, Georgia, Mary Anne Doherty of Jamaica Plain and Grace Kneier of Victoria B.C. She leaves 14 great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the West Roxbury Irish Social Club until recently. She was honored in her 99th year by the Irish Cultural Society with the program title To Love Two Countries at a State House reception. She was a quiet woman who showed amazing courage, love and great faith in her lifetime. Goodnight sweet lady and may flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. Funeral from the William J. Michael Christopher Standish, of West Roxbury, formerly of Jamaica Plain, Marblehead and Weston, passed away on August 24, 2014. He was 68 years old. Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Michael attended McGill University and Boston University where he studied philosophy. A profound, gifted thinker with a tremendous sense of humor, he enjoyed reading, music, spending time with family and friends and baseball. Michael will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Michael was the devoted companion of 22 years of Virginia A. “Ginny” Macy of West Roxbury. Dear brother of John Thomas “Jace” Standish and his wife Sheila of Langley, British Columbia and Peter Bowman Standish and his wife Melissa of Pacific Palisades, California. He is also survived by his nephews, Matthew, Nicholas, Reid, Jack and Wyatt as well as many longtime, dear friends. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
